Wednesday 14 July - Marcus and Sue Evans
Marcus and Sue Evans have just published their jointly-written book, Gender Dysphoria: A Therapeutic Model for Working with Children and Adolescents. Marcus Evans was a Trustee of the Tavistock and Portman Trust but resigned because of the consternation he felt about children being prescribed puberty blockers by their medical professional. A psychoanalyst who originally trained as a psychiatric nurse, he has published two other books, Making Room for Madness in Mental Health and Psychoanalytic Thinking in Mental Health Settings. His partner, Sue Evans, worked as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist for the Gender Dysphoria Service at the Tavistock and became increasingly concerned about the alacrity with which children were being given permission to have puberty blockers and/or elective surgery to change their gender. She was the original plaintive in the case brought against the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust over informed consent which is now going to the Court of Appeal.
